Points of Interest
Williams House Museum - a 1931 log house, built from logs off of Beckwourth Peak. It was a Shell Station in the front and residence in the back. It is now the Portola Visitors Center and has a museum collection of historical pictures and items relating to the lumber, railroad and mining history of the Portola and the surrounding area.

Portola Railroad Museum
- has a large collection of steam, diesel engines and other railroad cars. It is one of the few places where you can see, climb on and drive a railroad engine.

Jim Beckwourth Museum - Jim Beckwourth is the man who discovered a lower pass (than Donner) over the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the 1800's. His cabin and trading post is preserved with a history of the man and the area.

Nakoma at Gold Mountain
- is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed building with a resaurant and golf shop.

Things to Do
Stroll through Old Town Portola and browse through unique clothing shops, a make your own pottery shop, and a quilt shop.

Stop at the market deli for lunch. Enjoy a milk shake at the soda fountain in the local drug store.

We have several great restaurants to choose from including; authentic German food at "The Log Cabin" and Mexican food at "Casa Carmelita".

We have an adorable book store that can provide you with all of the "best sellers" you desire!

Just off of Commercial Street you'll find an excellent observation area at the town caboose... you can sit directly to the side of the railroad yard...great for train enthusiasts!

Enjoy camping at Lake Davis where you can fish, sail your boat, swim, mountain bike, and simply enjoy the clean mountain air.

In the winter our area is great for ice-fishing, cross-country skiing, and snow mobiling.

Many visitors love to float down the wild and scenic Feather River.

Or take a swim at Lake Davis or the Portola City Pool.

You'll love bicycling through the mountains, the Sierra Valley and the Portola River Walk.

Don't forget horseback riding with the family!

Are you interested in less strenuous activities? Try bird watching, star gazing, walking on the River Walk along the Feather River, have a picnic at the Forest Service Park, or take a scenic drive through the quiet and peaceful mountains.
